Stories Behind My Songs: I Believe

Faith in Jesus Christ is built upon, first, a belief in Him. Without simple belief, faith cannot develop. We must extend the hope and belief that He lives, that He will heal and that His Atonement is real and life-changing.
When I was 22 years old, living in a small main floor apartment, with my little girl on my lap and another babe on the way, I began composing the song, “I Believe”. Every
writing experience is uniquely special, and this is one I cherish because it was one that took several years to finish and danced in my head for such a long time. It’s one of my favourite melodies and the words are an extension of my heart – and were created during a period of growth and processing. It was almost hard to let it go to sheet music and to actually spend the time writing it down. I played it over and over, arranging, and rearranging, and when I was ready and published it in 2003, I knew it would be the first song of my first album if I ever had the chance to record – which I did, through a series of miracles, in 2006, releasing “Thy Healing Hands – Songs of Comfort and Peace”. I knew I wanted to share music about Jesus Christ because I felt renewed by my study of Him. I wanted my children to know Him so they could feel the joy I was feeling. And I wanted whoever heard my songs about Christ, to feel of His love. “I Believe” felt like a great way to begin sharing my heart about my Savior.

Faith in Jesus Christ is built upon, first, a belief in Him. Without simple belief, faith cannot develop. We must extend the hope and belief that, He lives, that He will heal and that His Atonement is real and life-changing. When we are humble and use spiritual eyes to see what mortal eyes cannot, truth bears witness of all things pertaining to Jesus Christ. As we exercise faith in Him through righteous action by following the path He has set for us, our belief materializes into something that changes every aspect of our lives. It’s the beginning of a sacred trust in an eternal relationship with our eternal, personal Savior.

 I Believe
(From the album “Thy Healing Hands – Songs of Comfort and Peace”)
I was not there when Jesus walked on water
Nor when He woke to calm the raging sea
I was not there to witness
His miracles on earth
Yet I will still have faith and believe.
I can read about His life in the scriptures
I can feel His love; the spirit testifies
I don’t need to see His face, or the nail prints in His hands
I can know by using spirit eyes.
Chorus
I believe, even though I have not seen
I have faith in Jesus Christ, His sacrifice
And where His footsteps lead.
I believe for the spirit does not deceive
There is truth borne to my soul.
I really know
He lived and died for me.I was not there when He wept in the garden
And took upon my every pain and sin.
I was not there to witness this miracle for me
Yet I can feel His power deep within.
And because my Savior knows me and loves me,
I will trust in Him and let my heart receive
Gifts of peace that heal my soul and make me whole again
If I will be not faithless, but believe.Repeat Chorus

He lives again for me!
I believe for my spirit eyes have seen
In humility I pray I’ll walk His way
Led by His perfect love.
I believe for the spirit does not deceive
I don’t need to see and feel to know He’s real
This knowledge is enough.
I believe.
