You Are His Child

If the  world would remember who they are – literal sons and daughters of a loving and caring God – what a different place it would be.

When I was a little girl, I was taught to pray by my mother. I was three. I remember kneeling beside my bed with a blue and white bedspread in my bedroom. My mother told me that I said, amongst other things,

“Dear Heavenly Father. Today I learned how to hop on one foot! Do you remember when you learned how to hop on one foot?….”

I’m not sure why I remember this experience exactly. Maybe it’s because my mother has reminded me of it often or maybe it’s because I remember the feeling I had that I could tell my Father in Heaven anything, but I remember that as I prayed to God, I knew He was my friend. I have never forgotten He is there.

As I have matured and grown, I now know and understand that He IS my Father – the Father of my spirit and I am His daughter. That knowledge comes through little glimpses I see of His love in my life. It comes through feelings, impressions and quiet moments when I seek Him.  Miracles become evident and my heart is full of gratitude.

I find great comfort that He knows and loves me. That fact alone makes me want to pray, want to read the scriptures and learn of Him, want to keep His commandments and want to serve and be His disciple – and continue the seeking that reminds me constantly that He is still there.  The knowledge of who we are changes us – and as we change, we become more like Him, which should be our ultimate goal and desire.

You Are His Child

If the world would remember who they are – literal sons and daughters of a loving and caring God – what a different place it would be. How much more tolerant, kind, and forgiving people would be. How hope in God’s greatest gift, the Atonement and sacrifice of His only begotten Son, would replace guilt with peace, despair with hope, hate with love, darkness with light. We must remember WHO WE ARE.

As my young women stand each week and say in their theme:  “We are daughters of our Heavenly Father who loves us and we love Him…” my heart swells knowing that the truth of this knowledge makes all the difference in my life and I pray that it makes a difference in theirs; that it JUST. SINKS. IN. I just wish everyone else knew and felt God’s love, because I know that’s where the truest form of safety and security is found.

One of my favourite quotes says this:

“Nothing is going to startle us more when we pass through the veil to the other side than to realize how well we know our Father and how familiar his face is to us.” – President Ezra Taft Benson

You Are His Child

You’re not as far away
As you think you are.
There’s more to life than meets the eye.
Heaven is so close;
There a Father loves you most
Watching over you as time goes by.
He’s just a prayer away
You can speak to Him
And tell Him every thought inside
He is always there
With an answer to your prayer
If you trust and faithfully confide.

Chorus

For He Smiles
Every time you smile
And His heart
Breaks when yours does too.
And He knows your every need
Before you call His name
Because you are His child
And He loves you.

When joy is hard to find
Just remember Him
For He has promised you His light.
Close your eyes and feel
As He whispers something real;
You are precious in the Father’s sight.

Repeat Chorus

You are His child
And He loves you.
