Ooey Gooey Cinnamon Buns

Who doesn’t like cinnamon buns?! These are a number one hit! Ooey and gooey! If you boogie, you can whip up these in about 2 hours. They don’t take long to rise in the goo because it’s still warm from the pot!

Yield: Two (and maybe 3 if you make them a little smaller) Costco size cookie sheets. (24 per pan). These are meant to GIFT (and eat what’s left). If you have any questions, you can leave them in the comments below.

Dough (this is just my standard sweet dough recipe. It makes great dinner rolls as well.

4 c warm water
4 eggs
1/2 c oil
1/2 c sugar
3 T yeast
1 T salt
11-12 c flour

Mix all ingredients, except 3-4 c of the flour, in Bosch – or halve it for Kitchen Aid. Mix for 5-10 minutes. Then add the last 3-4 c of flour slowly.

Cover with tea towel and rise in greased bowl till double (about 45 min.)

**While dough was rising in the bowl, make GOO (this makes two Costco sized cookie sheet pan-fulls to match up with the amount of dough above. If you have any extra buns, I just usually bake them plain in an 9×13 or 8×8…depending. You may need to mix up another 1/2 batch of goo if you end up with too many extra buns, but you won’t know until you start slicing them. It all depends on how thick you cut them).

1 1/2 c butter
2 2/3 c brown sugar
2-3 T corn syrup
2 T cinnamon

Melt in a pot and bring to barely a boil (like really BARELY). Don’t over cook. Then divide the pouring onto two parchment lined pans. Place your cut cinnamon buns on goo, like in picture.

Now that goo is made and dough is double, divide dough in half and roll out on lightly buttered or floured countertop (about 2′ long x 10″). Rub with about 1/4 cup of butter and sprinkle brown sugar and cinnamon to taste. Roll up and slice about 1″ thick. Place on pan, leaving 1″ of space between rolls.

Cover with tea towel and rise another 1/2 hour.

Bake @ 350 for 22 minutes.

After baked, flip over onto another sheet of parchment paper on counter and let goo run down.

CREAM CHEESE ICING…if you weren’t in a diabetic coma already….

8 oz of softened cream cheese
1/4 c butter
4 c icing sugar
1 tsp vanilla

Mix with hand mixer and spread over semi-cooled cinnamon bun.

I make deals with my kids like – “I’ll make cinnamon buns if you clean the whole house”. It’s a pretty great trade off!
